Rick Bunger
As Cooper Aerial’s Registered Land Surveyor Rick plays a major role in a majority of the projects that come through our doors. A Registered Land Surveyor since 1981, Mr. Bunger began his surveying career in Globe, Arizona working for a private firm owned by Travis Gant. Rick later purchased the firm and continued the company’s tradition of excellence. Mr. Bunger then decided to sell the firm and became the Gila County Surveyor where he served for 10 years. While in Gila County, Rick played a major role in helping to establish a County Wide Geodetic Control Network. In conjunction with the National Geodetic Survey Administration, a total of 108 points were set in Gila County, and 137 points in Cochise County. The network provides Horizontal and Vertical control for FEMA mapping studies, County wide infrastructure, and Right of Way Surveys. During his time as the Gila County Surveyor Rick also served as the APLS Chair, and in 2007, was named the APLS Surveyor of the Year.

| Project Highlights
San Carlos Irrigation and Drainage District
Location: Central Arizona
Project Classification: Irrigation Rehabilitation
Cooper Aerial was contracted by GEI Consultants to assist in the preparation of surveys and mapping for the rehabilitation of the San Carlos Irrigation Project. Cooper’s mapping and survey will be used in the preparation of designs for modifications to, or reconstruction of, existing structures that divert and deliver irrigation water from the Gila River in Pinal County, Arizona. This project is part of the rehabilitation of the San Carlos Irrigation Project that was authorized by the Arizona Water Settlements Act of 2004.

Cooper Aerial was responsible for project team coordination for survey and photogrammetric services and cost estimating for the project. We furnished 1″=600′ (1:7200) B/W stereo photography with 2′ contours and 1:14400 color stereo photography of Phase 1, Phase 2, and the Lateral Service Area of the San Carlos Irrigation and Drainage District. Cooper and Geodetic Analysis performed various survey services including discovery survey, setting up a custom LDP network and surveying the entire canal system using digital level loops. George Cairo Engineering conducted canal cross sections and the structure survey as well as additional engineering services including civil, agricultural, and water resources.
We would like to thank GEI Consultants for giving us the opportunity to work on this unique and exciting project! |
| Golden Valley
Location: Mohave County, Arizona
Project Classification: Flood Control
Mohave County Flood Control District, MCFCD, possesses numerous mapping databases dating back to the 1970′s. Several of these databases were on conflicting datums. FEMA attempted to re-project and match these databases without much resolve. The goal of the Golden Valley Mapping & Imagery project is to obtain one consistent mapping product to study floodplain and drainage analysis. This data will also be used to revise the digital flood insurance rate map, DFIM.

Cooper Aerial Surveys Co. provided photogrammetry and surveying services for a 210 square mile area. Working closely with Shephard Wesnitzer, Inc., Cooper Aerial Surveys Co. provided mapping and surveying services, Airborne GPS set-up and post-processed data. The Mohave County Height Modernization benchmarks were utilized along with 15 horizontal and vertical control monuments that were permanently set by Cooper and Geodetic Analysis using brass caps set into bedrock for non-subsidence monuments. In addition, Shephard-Wesnitzer set and controlled 146 aerial panels to support Airborne GPS photogrammetry.

Using Airborne GPS, Cooper furnished 1:7200 B/W stereo photography with 2′ contours to the District. The color ortho photography was acquired at 1:14400 also using Airborne GPS. The photography from the higher stereo flight produces a quality ortho product at 6” ground pixel resolution while providing a cost savings to the client.
The entire Cooper team enjoyed working on this project and would like to thank the Mohave County Flood Control District for the opportunity to be part of such a fun and challenging assignment! |
